Industry and Government move towards Co-Management of Fisheries

The B.C. Seafood Alliance is committed to co-management—or shared stewardship of commercial fisheries resources. Alliance member organizations believe that co-management provides a fisheries management policy framework that enhances both conservation of the resource and economic success for the industry.

To move towards co-management, the B.C. Seafood Alliance, with the support of the B.C. Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada, held a workshop on entitled "Sustainability through Co-management: Managing for a Sustainable, Profitable Fishery" on October 9 and 10, 2002.
